The GOP “YES WE CAN” Campaign

DiggThis

YES WE CAN… just say NO!

YES WE CAN… be on the side of Wall Street instead of Main Street.

YES WE CAN… be on the side of Health Insurance companies instead of American families.

YES WE CAN… have Tea Parties to spread lies while wasting taxpayer money.

YES WE CAN… believe that Glenn Beck is our hero.

YES WE CAN… have a drug-addicted talk show host as the “leader” of the Republican party.

YES WE CAN… spread hate in the name of Jesus.

YES WE CAN… claim our President isn’t an American born citizen.

YES WE CAN… vote for rape.

YES WE CAN… deny all rights to gay couples.

… And Now You Get Mad?!

You didn’t get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.
You didn’t get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate energy policy.
You didn’t get mad when a covert CIA operative got outed.
You didn’t get mad when the Pentagon misplaced $2.3 trillion.
You didn’t get mad when the Patriot Act got passed.
You didn’t get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.
You didn’t get mad when we spent over 600 billion(and counting) on said illegal war.
You didn’t get mad when over 10 billion dollars just disappeared in Iraq.
You didn’t get mad when you saw the Abu Grahib photos.
You didn’t get mad when you found out we were torturing people.
You didn’t get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.
You didn’t get mad when we didn’t catch Bin Laden.
You didn’t get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.
You didn’t get mad when we let a major US city drown.
You didn’t get mad when the deficit hit the trillion dollar mark.
You didn’t get mad when the debt went up $5 trillion under Bush.

You finally got mad when.. when… wait for it… when the government decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, are all OK with you but helping other Americans… well ^#& that.

Outlook 07 – Disconnected

DiggThis

Running Outlook 07 on Exchange 03 hasn’t been an issue here until I had to setup a new employee.

I setup the profile, configured Outlook 07, and tried it out. The client was always saying “Disconnected”  This setup was the same as all others when I went to Office 07, except they were all using Office 03 before and I migrated the settings to 07.

The local firewall wasn’t blocking communication.
There were no errors in the Event Viewer on the client or the server.
No error message from Outlook
Remaking the Mail profile did not help.

I started searching online for an answer, and I came across this post.  Similar symptoms, but my user is a domain user, not a local user.

Issue: Outlook 2007 not able to connect to exchange server 2003 under local user account to setup email account once Office 2007 SP2 update is applied to your computer.
Solution: There is no such fix solution for this problem at the moment. You can still setup an exchange 2003 email account on your computer if you are logged in as domain user. If you want to setup an exchange email account on outlook 2007 when you are logged in on your computer as local user, then you need to make sure you don’t apply office 2007 SP2 update on your computer.

I figured I would give it a try.  I setup the person’s e-mail account using Outlook 2003 on my laptop with the roaming profile, and then went to the new employee’s laptop and logged in, had Outlook 2007 migrate the settings, and it worked.

Internet Censorship – Australia

DiggThis

Anonymous is back.

They are back, and they are taking on the Australian government.

The government of Australia has set forth in it’s plan to censor the internet and ban certain kinds of porn such as porn with small breasted women, because the person watching could think that the actress is under 18. (source)  They have also banned the use of cartoon pornography as well as female ejaculation.

Of course the Australian Government has sent a release stating otherwise… (link)

So, Anonymous has responded on YouTube as well as an open letter to the public

Along with this announcement, Operation Titstorm has started.

The attack is a 3 tiered attack of email, fax, and DDOS attacks.  Of course, the main sites being attacked are the main governmental site as well as the site of the guy that started it all, Senator Stephen Conroy. The attack is gaining a lot of press, and is gaining speed fast.

Let this be a lesson to the people that are fighting against Net Neutrality in this country.  This is what could happen to us if the internet is not promised to be free and open.

Keep up the good fight Anonymous.. Keep up the good fight.

Making Drug Tests Required to be on Welfare?

DiggThis

This facebook group caught my eye as friends on both sides of the aisle were joining it, so I joined it as well to see some point of views on the topic. EDIT: The linked page has since been taken down, and this one is in it’s place: Click Here

It sounds like a good idea doesn’t it? On the surface, yeah, it could sound like a good idea.  But when I thought about it more, it doesn’t seem like that good of an idea after all.  Think of all of the checks and balances that would need to be put into place to try and save a little money.

One of the biggest arguments in the group is, “I needed to pass a drug test to get my job, why can’t they get tested for getting on welfare?”  Cost would be the simple reason.  When an employer hires someone and puts them through a drug test, they pay for that cost of the hospital doing that service for them.  If a system would be put in place for drug testing welfare recipients, the government would have to pick up the tab on millions of tests to be done, which would in turn increase the costs of the welfare system as a whole.

You are probably thinking, why wouldn’t it decrease the costs?  This could be debated, but my belief is that there are more non-drug using people that need the welfare system when they fall on bad times than there are people on drugs that fall onto the system.  In the end, we would be paying more for testing, than the people that are denied would save in spending.

Now, what would happen to those denied welfare due to them using drugs? How would they make a living? They would most likely go to a life of crime, drug dealing, prostitution, etc. to try and make ends meet.  This would also cost our tax payers more money to cover the costs of these citizens.  We are not just covering their welfare now, but we are covering the costs of them being processed through the courts and then put into the prison system.

What about legal drug abuse? There are some people that use the system and abuse the money that they get on legal drugs such as nicotine and alcohol instead of feeding their kids.  How would this idea govern that?

What about corporate welfare? How would this idea be extended to that area?

All in all, this will never be more than just an idea the more you think about it, and will never make it through any congress or senate.

Unfortunately, the group on Facebook supporting this has devolved from what sounded to be a good idea on the surface to something that is bringing out the hate and racism in droves.

The current system is being abused, yes… but that is the nature of the beast.  If there is a system, someone out there will abuse it.  This system just happens to carry a stereotype with it where people are looked down on as a result of their misfortune.  It all comes down to how you enforce regulations on how to make sure that the people that need it, receive it.

There are ways to deal with people who are abusing the system, turn them in. http://www.ucowf.org/

Of course there are alternative groups out there we well, such as this one.

Stand for what you believe in, look into the issues and don’t blindly follow them.

Ipredator – New VPN Service from The Pirate Bay Released to the Public

DiggThis

Ipredator, The Pirate Bay’s new VPN service has just been released.

Governmental and ISP tracking of what you do online no longer has to be a worry. “Pirates” can now sigh with relief and everything can proceed as it did before when governmental agencies and ISP’s came cracking down on sites like The Pirate Bay, Suprnova, Mininova, etc.  Freedom the internet has returned.. well.. at the price of 5 Euros a month :)

Ipredator offers anyone who uses it’s service a 128-bit encryption, they do not keep any logs*, and the service is protected under the Swedish government’s own laws on pre-paid services.  From the FAQ

Ipredator VPN service enjoys the strongest legal protection possible under Swedish Law because of the service type (pre-paid flat-rate service). This means that Ipredator do not have to keep an ordinary customer database (to be able handle transactions etc.). This is of importance if forced to hand over information.

So, wtf is wrong?

At this time, the biggest complaints are that it doesn’t explicitly say that they do not keep logs on their site, but BoingBoing was told by former Pirate Bay spokesperson Peter Sunde that it is indeed the case that they do not keep logs.   Many comments so far are saying they will not sign up for the service unless it specifically says that in their terms and conditions.  We will see if The Pirate Bay listens to the people and puts that promise in black and white.

Also, there are a few people that are not happy that they use the PPTP protocol for the service, due to a few vulnerabilities that are well documented.  Many of the potential subscribers are asking for Open VPN support to be incorporated into their system for a clean, trustworthy open-source system.

Got Disaster? Send in the Bibles!

DiggThis

Who would have ever thought that something written as an example of extreme satire by The Onion would ever come true?  I know I wouldn’t…

Today, an article on digg.com showed that a faith based group based out of New Mexico sent over 600 solar-powered audio Bibles to Haiti for the relief efforts.  Never mind that the survivors there need money, food, water, shelter, and medicine… Just send in the Bibles!  Not just any bible… A solar powered audio Bible geared towards the “poor and illiterate people.”

In the comments on digg.com was a link to The Onion, which was written back in 2006 titled, Poverty-Stricken Africans Receive Desperately Needed Bibles.  The satire is as thick as the onion could possibly make it, and readers back then probably thought, oh hell… the onion did it again, no one could EVER be this naive.  Well, humanity proved them wrong as anticipated.  I cringe as I wonder, what else will come true out of the onion?

wtf…

Facebook Bra Colors Gone Viral – Wtf?

DiggThis

So, you’ve noticed that women have been updating their status with just one word, a color.  Why?  It is for breast cancer awareness, but they aren’t telling you that.

As one blogger put it on NPR, it’s slacktivism at it’s finest.  Have you learned anything more about breast cancer?  Have you shared a story about how breast cancer has affected you?  Have you learned how to fight against breast cancer?  No!  You just know the bra colors of women on your friend’s list, and are leaving people in the dust about what you are talking about.

It could be that people are a little late in noticing that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  January is Cervical Health Awareness Month, so expect another viral surge 3 months from now in the form of colors of underwear.

As a recognition of prostate/testicle cancer, blue.  Oh, and you can go here to learn more about it.

The Equation of Love

Many people search for the equation of love all of their lives.  Here it is in all of it’s glory.
\sqrt{1 - (\left|x\right| - 1)^2} = -2.5 \sqrt{1 - \sqrt{\frac{\left|x\right|}{2}}}
