What the %&#$ is Wrong?

I am suprised I havn’t found www.fstdt.com (Fundamentalists say the darndest things) sooner.  I’ve been browsing it a bit over the last few days, and I have noticed a similar theme to a lot of the things said. Some of the themes I noticed were sex, hatred of other religions, the denial of evolution, the notion of being possessed or attacked by demons or spirits, and the biggest shocker.. pro-rape ideas.  Here is my personal top 5 quotes for each topic I have noticed themes about.

Sexuality

When I decided to homeschool my six year old son, I told him we were going to do “Dinosaur Week”. Which turned into “Dinosaur Month”. . . at the least! We watched “Walking With Dinosaurs” and a lot of other documentaries. He’s a pretty smart kid, too, so even he ended up saying “Ok. Scientists say that God isn’t real. They say earth is a kajillion years old. They say that people and dinosaurs weren’t alive at the same time and that a lot of dinosaurs could have died from a big flood, but that The Flood didn’t happen. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?!”. He gets really upset about people not believing in God – as in he doesn’t want them going to hell and he can’t believe people can ignore God all around us. Every time we watch one of those dinosaur things, he gives a big, overly-dramatic sigh whenever they start talking about “millions of years” or evolution.

One that really cracked him up was where they theorize about reptiles evolving into humanoid creatures. Good grief! And they teach most of this stuff as FACT in schools!!!! I can’t believe it. Neither can a six year old. So WHY is it so accepted?!!?

I teach him what makes SENSE. NOT what science textbooks say. I also teach my kids to question what they are taught – especially what they learn in school. It’s really not fun at all having a bunch of junior scientists in the house when 99% of science seems to be atheistic.

I find it fascinating that whenever a new “dinosaur” is discovered, they never show the actual excavation but only an artistic representation of what scientists “think” the animal may have looked like. Evolution is definitely running on after-burners big time so those in the evolutionary “camp” keep grabbing at whatever they can to keep up the “propaganda”. Leviathon is a spirit I have battled as well. It was a hard battle but was won. It was about four months or more ago. My wife and I were in McDonalds and were having a conversation with an angel and Leviathon had come up. I told the angel that i wanted to fight this demon and he said I could. On the way back to the hotel I asked the angel if he could bring the demon to a predestinated place and he said yes. I figured that since Leviathon was from the depths of the sea he would be used to the cold water so I filled the tub up with scalding hot water and blessed the water. We all pulled our swords from our hips and began running this demon through with all my strength and everything I had. I would say it took atleast half an hour or more. With the recent announcement of Facebook Places by Facebook, many people are wondering what will happen to it’s direct competitor, Foursquare?  My initial though was that Facebook Places will phase out Foursquare in a year or so, let’s see if my initial thought holds true after taking a closer look.

Facebook Places is only out right now on the iPhone application, but they do have plan to release it to Blackberries and Android phones as well.   I have not seen if there are any ways to use it in a web browser, but if you go to touch.facebook.com you can use Facebook Places in your web browser, except it is in a iPhone style layout which is kind of annoying.

Being able to check-in from a web browser easily is the clear advantage that Foursquare has on Facebook Places at this time, but I do anticipate that Facebook will roll out a browser based version after they take care of updating the software for GPS enabled smart phones.

Another clear difference that the two products have is the map services that they use.  Right now, Facebook is using both Bing and Google Maps.  In the iPhone application, it will display a Google Map for you, but when you look at a location on facebook, it will show you a Bing static map with no interactivity.  Foursquare uses Google Maps across it’s platform and will display a interactive Google Map for you on it’s web page so you can zoom in and out, and also change the type of map it is between Map, Satellite, and Hybrid. One more thing to note, when you update your Foursquare and send an update to Facebook, it does use a static Bing map there as well.  If you click the link generated however, it will bring you to a media rich Google Map.

The clear edge that Facebook has is the ability to send out notifications and also tag people int he posts when you create a Places post.  However with Foursquare, you have the ability to post your update to Twitter as well as Facebook.  You can’t take a Facebook Places post and tweet it at the same time, and I highly doubt you will be able to in the future unless someone creates a third-party application.  You might see smart phone users either using both Places and Foursquare to tweet their location as well as update their Facebook Places.  After a while that might be too tedious and they might stick with Foursquare which will do both.

Programmers will still be happy with both products, both Facebook and Foursquare have API’s for building applications and potentially integrating the products in a web page or blog.   Full access to Facebook Place’s API will be available sometime in the future.

My initial thought was that Facebook Places would phase Foursquare out after a year or so, but I have changed my mind. After looking at both products, I will have to give the edge to Foursquare at this time.
