Got Disaster? Send in the Bibles!
Who would have ever thought that something written as an example of extreme satire by The Onion would ever come true? I know I wouldn’t…
Today, an article on digg.com showed that a faith based group based out of New Mexico sent over 600 solar-powered audio Bibles to Haiti for the relief efforts. Never mind that the survivors there need money, food, water, shelter, and medicine… Just send in the Bibles! Not just any bible… A solar powered audio Bible geared towards the “poor and illiterate people.”
In the comments on digg.com was a link to The Onion, which was written back in 2006 titled, Poverty-Stricken Africans Receive Desperately Needed Bibles. The satire is as thick as the onion could possibly make it, and readers back then probably thought, oh hell… the onion did it again, no one could EVER be this naive. Well, humanity proved them wrong as anticipated. I cringe as I wonder, what else will come true out of the onion?
