Windows 7 – Custom Recycle Bin Icons Not Automatically Refreshing
Sometimes, when using different custom icons for both the Full and Empty Recycle Bin, the icons will not change when filled or emptied, unless you manually refresh the Desktop.
Here is how to fix the issue.
**Warning** Always backup your registry before editing. This information and this site are not responsible for any damage done by editing the registry.
- Open the Registry Editor, Go to your Start Menu and type “regedit” and hit enter, and then “Yes” to the pop-up warning.
- Go to this path in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/CLSID/{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}/Default Icon
- On the right hand side, you will see the custom path you have set for your icons. Double click on the entry, and add a ,0 (zero) at the end of the path. Example:

- Repeat this for all entries, default, full, empty
- Close Regedit and your changes should take place immediately. You will not have to logoff/logon or restart the computer.
